Johaug Kicks Off Her Preparations For New Season

Therese Johaug wants the world to know that she might be somewhat down – but certainly not out.

A 28 year old Olympic and world champion just shared with 336.000 of her Instagram followers a photo of herself in a company of her coach Pål Gunnar Mikkelsplass ( silver medalist of the OGs in Calgary in 1988), her personal ski waxer Snorre Haugland and, of course, her brother and training partner Karstein Johaug.

Being back on skis at the beginning of May is likely making a Norwegian the first elite skier in the world to come back to snow after a traditional spring vacation. Most of her competitors are still busy posting snaps taken on various holiday beaches.

Meanwhile, which direction Johaug’s season would take remains in the hands of the CAS, (Court of Arbitration for Sport) based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Johaug had missed the last season as she is banned for 13 months after she tested positive for the banned substance clostebol after using a cream for a sunburn lip. The International Ski Federation (FIS) however, had appealed the length of the ban, declaring it to be too lenient. The CAS has a final say in all the doping cases in the world of sport. If Therese gets her penalty extended to 16 months or more by the CAS, she won’t be able to compete at the Winter Olympics next year.

The Court of Arbitration is scheduled to begin hearing the Norwegian champion’s case on Tuesday, June 6th.
