Thanks For Reading Daily Skier – And Happy New Skiing Year!

Newsfeed
Hey! The Daily Skier was launched in April 2017 ( yes, right after the snow season's end – it so happened) with a goal of bringing together people who care about cross country skiing as a sport , as a healthy lifestyle – and as a form of entertainment. Yes, we want to break xc skiing out of cliches along the lines of "he won because he run faster – and here are his lap times". Cross country skiers are some of the fittest, balanced and the most attractive people in world – there is no reason not to put it on display. They tend to have strong opinions – and we shall provide a pulpit for those to be aired in public. One wouldn't exactly call the Daily Skier…

Northug Fan Goes On Epic Rant, Wakes Up Famous

You reckon cross country skiing fans are some cold, reserved, distant bunch - a bit like their beloved sport? Think again then. Meet Lars Erik Saltrø, a home repair contractor from Trondheim in Norway who woke up famous this week after an epic rant he posted on his Facebook page. Over 100.000 people in Norway ( and, presumably Sweden and even Finland) viewed the video in which Lars Erik in rather animated fashion wishes “Merry Christmas to everyone – except two people” Those unfortunate two happened to be some household names in Norway: cross country ski team's manager Vidar Løfshus and team trainer Tor-Arne Hetland. So what's caused the ire of good ole Mr. Saltrø? In his minute long speech that invokes, among other things, names of Pol Pot and…

Is He Millionaire Yet? Klæbo’s Appeal To Advertizers Grows Sensationally Fast

Money & Finance, Newsfeed
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is finishing the year in remarkable style: No male skier before him won seven FIS Cross-Country World Cup titles at the beginning of the season, Welcome to 2017 when titles mean publicity, publicity ((smartly used) means large following in social networks, publicity + popularity translates into big money. Ergo, Klæbo is firmly on his way of becoming the youngest/quickest millionaire ever in cross country skiing in US dollar terms. Because the sport of narrow skis skiing is well behind established sports such as football or tennis, where stars' earnings are almost automatically made public and become a major athlete's badge of honor ( as in “Neymar Jr., yearly salary 36.8 million EUR ") , it is difficult to say for sure what Klæbo is making these days. Which…

Team US Joins Fancy Ski Wax Truck Club – We Look At The Most Expensive Piece Of Equipment In XC Skiing

Gear News, Newsfeed
Team US joined the top ski league last month when it got possession of its brand-new wax truck Cross country skiing at the top level is a technical sport. Your chances of winning seriously go south if you don't have one of those tech-wonders. Dedicated ski wax truck is a relatively new development: in 2008 then-Sweden coach and one of the all-time greats, Gunde Swan had unveiled the world's very first semi-trailer, custom built for ski waxing. The machine was a cooperation between Svan, Scania the truck maker and the Swedish specialty builder Specialkarosser AB otherwise known as SKAB. The “wax truck” fashion since have taken the skiing world by storm. Scania and SKAB retain the lead – most of the ski trucks are built by them, including all (…

Skiing In Brazilian Favela: How One Man Decided To Change Lives And How Whole World Is Now Helping

Newsfeed, Trivia
Well, it's Christmas, finally. Time for what psycologists call "optimism bias" – the state of mind when we all want to hear something positive, something that makes us to believe in good Santa – and humanity as a whole. Here's a ski related story that has the right vibe. ...When Leandro Ribela, a former Olympian cross-country skier from Brazil, who took part in Vancouver and Sochi Olympic Winter Games, had decided that skiing could be something favela kids in his native São Paulo could practice, there were only four boys that had agreed to give it a try. That was in 2012 Just five years later the Ski Na Rua project that Leandro launched, lists 92 of what is known as "underprivilege kids" from São Remo favela doing rollersking AND…
