Take A Look Inside Peltonen, World’s Most Modern Ski Factory

Gear News, Newsfeed
...It's almost impossible to believe that barely two months ago this part of the country felt as cold as the Finnish cold could ever be while hosting one of the most prestigious skiing competitions in the world: the Lahti Ski Games. Today the Lahti region ( officically Päijänne Tavastia – and good luck pronouncing that correctly) is living through a scorching hot spring day and, judging by attire ( almost universal shorts for men, light dresses for women) the last thing on people's mind is winter sports. We are here, however, because of skiing ( and rollerskiing – more of which in a separate story) Because today we visit what is branded as the “world's most modern ski-producing factory”. Or, perhaps, the biggest of the smaller ski makers. ...The world…

New Faces In Elite Skiing

New Faces In Elite Skiing

Leaders, Newsfeed
The last season "young guns" have seriously pushed experienced skiers off the pedestal. It is more pronounced in male skiing where 21 year old Klaebo and Bolshunov ran almost unopposed towards the end of the season. The tendency is not that pronounced (yet? ) in ladies' skiing - however yesterday's juniors such as Stina Nilsson, Teresa Stadlober and Natalia Nepryaeva need to introductions any longer Today we bring to you attention some names/photos of those who, we reckon, will come to shine in the upcoming season - and many years to come after that, of course. The list (and skiers' order of appearances) is in no way definitive - it's merely an attempt to make readers/viewers understand, recognize and appreciate some of the "new elite' better. Enjoy! RIP One Way

RIP One Way

Gear News, Newsfeed
One Way as we know it is no more. An ambitious Finnish company, best known for its world-class ski poles,  used at different point in time by such greats as Martin Fourcade ,  Charlotte Kalla, Dario Cologna, Alexei Poltoranin, Ragnhild Haga to name but a few, have succumbed to the pressure of its debts and went bankrupt. Things looked very promising for One Way Sports Oy as recently as 2014,  when their net sales topped 12 million Euros and they've signed a very promising deal with the Chinese ski association. https://www.instagram.com/p/BcUl1lvgeCn/?taken-by=kalla_87 But a combination of several snowless winters in continental Europe and a sharp fall of the value of rouble ( with Russia being OW's most important market) doomed the Finnish company. At the end of March this year Vantaa District…

Why Norway Is Leading Nordic Skiing Nation

Newsfeed, Training & Outfitting
There is a belief that Norwegian skiers are born with inherent talent and dedication to the sport. Podiums and success seem to come easy to everyone with blond hair and red spandex. However, the Norwegian winning streak is a result of great knowledge and countless hours of training. And even though Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall have made their way to the podium several times this year, Norway seems to still be in the lead of well, everything. Norway is the world’s leading Nordic skiing nation and we have yet to figure out why. From young Klæbo to the legendary Northug, the nation seems to produce one talent after another. It is hard to determine exactly how they manage to stay on top season after season, but there are a…
