What is faster – 'snow' skis or rollerskis? The athletes from the Swiss sprint team decided to check it out. Say hello to Erwan Käser, competing on Marwe 610As and Roman Schaad, Fischer Speedmax! https://www.instagram.com/p/Ba_vEbTB3J3/?taken-by=xc_bullets This duel did not go unnoticed. The Italian World Champion in 200m rollerski sprint, Emmanuele Beccis, feinted felling indignant that he had been forgotten. He offered to the Swiss to repeat their challenge, but with the strongest: himself on rollers with slow vs ski supersprint-champion Ludvig “Ludde” Jensen (announcement – read a separate interview with Emmanuele Beccis later this week on the DailySkier). “They are the fastest! – 3-time Olypmic Champion Dario Cologna stood up for his compatriots. – They are bullets!” – the Swiss sprinters’ Instagram account is called “xc ski_bullets”. https://www.instagram.com/p/BawMTx2BWS-/?taken-by=xc_bullets “That’s right…

Skiing Is Fun And People Should See It That Way – Say Founders Of Successful Ski Club in St.Petersburg

…The first thing one notices is how young they are – all three are not even 25 yet. They have, however, founded and are running one of the most successful cross-country ski clubs in Russia. Meet Ivan Zhilinskiy, Olga Zabrodina and Konstantin Klimushin from Ski Time, Saint Petersburg. Their youthful appearance is deceiving – all three had a career in skiing (those familiar with the Russian system would know how difficult it is to get a coveted “Master of Sports” title in skiing in particula, Zhilinsky is a former all-Russia champion in rollerskiing – here he's doing a healthy bit of doublepoling uphill) but switched to coaching rather early, got their sports study diplomas – and launched their own business, ski club for kids and grown ups. https://www.instagram.com/p/BRDAW2tDdcy/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BW0FqH0DxiJ/?taken-by=skitimepro Full conversation…

FIS Plays Robin Hood, Takes (Prize) Money From Winners, Gives To Distant Runners-Up

While skiing fans were busy discussing proposed changes to programs of the Ski World Championships, elite skiers themselves were closely studying new FIS pay charts – with many stars not liking the changes. In the recent years, a winner of the race in World Cup received EUR 13.000 – it will now be reduced to EUR 8700. A runner-up was to take home EUR 8700 – now it's EUR 6500 instead. It would become much less rewarding to win the Tour de Ski series : a winner of the grueling multi-day race will be entitled to half as much compared to what it used it be – EUR 47.700 vs 84.800! A second-placed athlete will also lose circa 10 thousand Euros. https://www.instagram.com/p/BPAmyOFAYa9/ So, where did all the money go? Well,…

Ulvang’s New Mixed Gender Sprint: We Name Pairs Qualified To Run

Ulvang’s New Mixed Gender Sprint: We Name Pairs Qualified To Run

Leaders, Newsfeed, Trivia
FIS' cross country skiing boss Vegard Ulvang have created a storm, announcing in interview with NRK that his organization is looking to spruce up the World Championship program by introducing new formats in skiing. While the idea of having jump boards in sprint runs seems to be getting the most attention, the most realistic and easy to implement is the one about mixed gender relays. It's been tested in biathlon and there are no objective reasons why it couldn't be tried even tomorrow. We have decided to help Mr. Ulvang by taking his idea a step further – how about allowing only the known couples or “items” as they used to be called, to participate in such races? Not wanting to be known as a gossip mag, we limit our…

FIS is trying to keep up with the times? Changes in cross country skiing competitions, some quite radical, are on the horizon You have to believe it since it comes straight from the boss: Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster NRK, Vegard Ulvang, chairman of the executive board of the FIS' cross-country committee, had this to say: “ It is very likely that there will be changes in World Championship program in cross country skiing .We have had the same program since the World Championship 2005 in Oberstdorf, so it may be time to adapt. We must be as attractive possible”. The program of the the World Championship in Seefeld-2019 is set & safe ( and remains traditional). Beyond that, however, all bets are off: https://www.instagram.com/p/BD4_Dy7rrtY/ Among potential changes: - Skiathlon is…
