Petter Northug: Johaug Got Million Kronas And I Got Nothing Because I Am Already On Contract

One million kronas or, roughly, 100.000 euros. That's what Therese Johaug got for her participation in the Landskampen television program as per Petter Northug who also took part (but, allegedly, got nothing for his effort as he's already on contract). The Swedish Expressen published an interview with the Norwegian superstar ahead of the program's debut in Sweden. Landskampen has already run on TV2 in Norway last year with great primetime ratings and was renewed for next season. Now the show's 8 installments will be aired on TV4 in Sweden. In the same interview Northug says that other participants got roughly 20000 euros for making an appearance and that the show's production schedule was significantly tightened because of Johaug's commitments elsewhere. Landskampen's executive producer Anders Sæther, however, rejects Northug's assertions: "Figures…

NRK’s Nothingburger – Ustiugov Won’t Leave TdS For His Wife’s Labour

NRK’s Nothingburger – Ustiugov Won’t Leave TdS For His Wife’s Labour

Newsfeed
NRK has made a good attempt to shock its audience: Sergey Ustiugov won't leave Tour de Ski in the event of his pregnant wife going into labour. Never mind the fact that Elena Soboleva's due date is at least a week past the final race of TdS. Never mind another little caveat that Sergey is now best positioned to win the series and thus take home some 55000 euros in prize money, not a bad paycheck for a crosscountry skier. Why is that surprising at all? In Russia men do not get themselves involved in baby delivery and their women actively do not want them to - ask anyone who ever lived in the country. Cramer is absolutely right - it is sacronsact duty & right of grandmothers-to-be (on both…

Alex Bolshunov Winter Victory Metal Is Forged In Summer

Winter victory metal is forged in summer. That or similar your coach probably used to tell you. And he was right. We couldn't stop telling you that at the top level money affect who wins: Norway, Russia and Sweden invest the most - and they win the most. Dedication and smart planning certainly helps. Case in point: while the rest went home to celebrate Christmas, the Russian team had an intense training camp in Toblach - and training on the same tracks where you about to compete always helps. But the core of the matter remains unchanged since the days of Gunde Svan ( and probably much beyond that): you have to train a lot. Time and again, through summer, autumn and winter we were lucky to observe how much…

XCSkiing Is Back On National Television In Key Market . First Ratings Are Reasonably Good

Money & Finance, Newsfeed
For those who regularly deal with television ratings and want to jump straight to the news - just go to section starting with bold lettering. For the rest - a bit of an intro as to why these news are actually rather important: Cross country skiing on top professional level has two sources of income: A/ contributions by local authorities of wherever the races are held, in money and in kind. It's done out of combination of regional tourism support and healthy living promotion (of which top skiers are good example) plus healthy dose of local pride. Neither of above is really commercial in nature. B/ Money acquired through selling television broadcasting rights. As we keep on reminding you, the FIS is absolutely unique in the modern world as it…

Splendeurs & Miseres De Tour De Ski

Splendeurs & Miseres De Tour De Ski

Leaders, Newsfeed
... With her finish lunge Anamarija Lampič has brought victory for herself - and Slovenia. Thus proving beyond any doubt that in even in 2019 skiers from a country of just two million people could still compete and win. Johaug and Klaebo won what they were widely expected to win and Ustigov has proven that he's back in the game & roaring. ...From a purely sporting point, the fourteen edition of Tour de Ski is a full package, anything & everything that even an occasional fan of skiing might want. The problem is, the competition itself is hurting. ….According to a legend, Jürg Capol, then FIS xcski race director, had suggested the idea of Tour de Ski to Vegard Ulvang while in sauna. The same legend says that the idea…
