Gear News, Leaders, Newsfeed
If there is a story of rapid rise in the world of cross country skiing that should be the one of IDT rollerskis. Mere three-four years ago practically nobody heard of the brand – but now, in 2018, it looks like anybody who is anybody in the world of skiing is being seen training and/or competing on IDT skis. Both Norwegian xcski and biathlon teams, Russian xcski team, personally Charlotte Kalla, Federico Pellegrino – the list of IDT users is long & growing. Ingvild Flugstad Østberg, Martin Sundby and Johannes Høsflot Klæbo lent their names directly to the brand promotion – and , if you read the interview on the Daily Skier , it's not just names – but hours of their work as well. Boutique Carbon Ski Boots? Sure, Why Not?

Gear News, Newsfeed
800€ for a pair of ski boots made by a company you probably never heard of? And we say - sure, why not?! Firstly, you get something truly exclusive ( initial production will not exceed 120 pairs). Secondly , we live in the world where, in closest sporting equivalent to cross country skiing, there are people who are ready to pay 1.000 € for Mavic Comete Ultimate . Thirdly - and the most importantly - the new ultimate boots are produced by the same very people who were behind one of the most talked about - and the least publicized - projects, that of Salomon Carbon boots used by a chosen few athletes at the Olympics of 2014. ...like Charlotte Kalla, probably the biggest star of those Games, sporting them…

Equipment Update: Who Is Using What. Poles Edition

Gear News, Newsfeed
We at the Daily Skier believe that the best skiers are not just medal-winning machines, but personalities - and influencers. To put it bluntly, knowing "who's shirt she/he wears" is important tidbit of knowledge that may or may not affect your choice when time comes to renew your equipment. Or it may not - but people still care to know - the way they care about football or basketball stars' preferences. ...This story is about what poles best international skiers are using. Naturally, vast majority of them are sponsored i.e receive the poles for free in exchange for visibility/promotion. Still, no skier would ever use poles if she/he find them wanting in any respect. So it's fair to say poles they use reflect their personal choices. https://www.instagram.com/p/BmCAgrChXps/?taken-by=daily_skier unusual to see…

Skiers Who Switched To New Gear This Summer ( And Some Who Thought To – But Did Not)

Skiers Who Switched To New Gear This Summer ( And Some Who Thought To – But Did Not)

Gear News, Leaders, Newsfeed
Today Fischer has proudly announced that it has officially won the battle to become a sponsor to Ingvild Flugstad Østberg. The switch is rather comprehensive: the double Olympic champion “...will place her trust in skis, bindings and boots from Fischer from now on...” Thus ends the “ski drama of the summer of 2018”, rather extensively covered in Norwegian media . The word "drama"" is applicable since it involved two teammates & friends, Østberg and the current World Cup holder Heidi Weng, who long were postergirls for Madshus but felt they underachieved at the Olympics in Korea. At the end Heidi chose to stay with her current skis/boots sponsor, Madshus - while Ingvild went to the “Fischer stable” - where, presumably, she will take the place of retired Marit Bjørgen in…

Feeling Of Skiing – How Marwe Rollerskis Are Made

Gear News, Newsfeed
Marwe Sports needs no long introduction. The company had long established itself as a golden standard in rollerski making, and when it talks of "feeling of skiing" - it's more than a corporate slogan, it's something many a national team, both in xcskiing and biathlon, can attest to. In order to understand how, in our rapidly changing world, Marwe manages to remain such a symbol of quality - and fun - the Daily Skier has traveled to the birthplace of Marwe skis. Well, two places, actually. Because flagship Marwe skis, 620 XC are assembled in two locations. Here's what we found & learned. ...Marwe's marketing manager Paul Fletcher inspects a plywood/Nomex combo core of the future rollerskis at the Peltonen factory in Heinola where all composite platforms are made. Paul…
