Introducing My Sponsor: Hailey Swirbul And Odin Recreation

Money & Finance, Newsfeed
Hailey Swirbul, US Ski Team, tells about her personal sponsor: My connection with the small mountain town of Mesa, Colorado-home to Odin Recreation-leads us to the very beginning of my cross-country skiing career. It was on the nearby Nordic trails where I skate-skied for the very first time and in the main lodge where my team and I lived for a training camp every November for the next 7 years. It has been an honor to partner with Odin as my headgear sponsor and carry that piece of my identity with me around the world this winter. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7udoP4Jku_/?igshid=bd91vak4d19t Odin Recreation is a local ski/ outdoor gear shop with a lot of enthusiasm for getting people of all ages outside. They offer gear rentals for skis, snowshoes, sleds, etc., ski lessons,…

New Day – New Strava Record. And By Whom!

With season's abrupt early end Norwegian skiers have a lot of capacity left, clearly. Some of them are now engaged in what looks like Citius, Altius, Fortius competition. Or, at least, Amplius or " longer". Enter Joar Thele. https://www.instagram.com/p/B6YqI31p2Fe/?igshid=1xi55guqnfs3o Thele, 26, runs for Team Ragde Eiendom and twice finished 11th in Vasaloppet - in 2019 and 2020. The 204k sessoon his Lyn clubmate and world champion in 50k Hans Christer Holund clocked last weekend, clearly felt somewhat underwhelming for a long distance pro. So he did 321. That's three hundred twenty one - read it slowly. In 18 hours, with elevation gain of some 3000m at the pace most of us would consider to be competition-worth ? You think that's impressive? Wait till you learn who was Thele's company on…

Gus Schumacher, 2020 Junior World Champion – Interview You’d Want To Read

Leaders, Newsfeed
Honestly, we do not think Gus Schumacher needs long introductions. A 19 year old from Anchorage, Alaska is a true leader of the extremely talented crop of US Juniors that collectively holds the best promise of breaking that Norwegian-Russian duopoly in male skiing - in a few years. We talked to the double gold medalist of the recent FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships with one big question in mind: when does he think he will start taking on Klaebo and Bolshunov & what's needed to make it happen? You are the first American to win a gold medal in an individual race at the World Juniors. What does it say about the relative strength of the youth ski system the US? - I think this first individual gold by…

This Was Harder Than Your Usual Effort: Hans Christer Holund Does 204 Kilometers Training Session

Leaders, Newsfeed
One sunny morning (that happened to be yesterday) the reigning world champion in 50k Hans Christer Holund got on his skis and went for a training session. That went on for 204.3 kilometers. For an average pace of 3.21 min/ km. If that does not impress a skier in you - nothing ever will! Hans Christer wasn't alone - a club-mate Johan Tjelle was skiing along and did the same distance. Both run for the metropolitan Lyn Sport club, Norway's strongest. Tjelle is nothing like a "weekend warrior" himself - in fact, he's currently 59th in the FIS Distance ratings (Holund is 4th). Naturally, we felt like asking Hans Christer why? And also How, What etc. Here, in his own words: - I was just interested to see how far…

Coronavirus: How’s Your Business Affected?

Money & Finance, Newsfeed
"How's Your Business Affected?" - that's the question we put to people directly involved in making things tick in the cross country skiing sector: gear manufacturers, retailers and coaches. The caveat that needs to be applied: different countries are on different stages of being hit be the coronavirus. This, alas, is not a subject that will go away any time soon so we shall update with reaction from the other captains of the industry when we hear from them. [caption id="attachment_15236" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Aki Tuovinen, country manager for Swix/Toko, Finland"At the moment in Finland it's still quite OK. In Lapland and Vuokatti regions are actually really well, since many ski enthusiasts went there for "remote working". But it strongly seems that within the week all shops (except grocery shops) will…
