Arne Idland: athletes from 13 nations will compete at Blink Skifestival this year

Leaders, Newsfeed
Arne Idland is a man who created Blink Skifestival in western Norway and built it into a premiere international summer event in both xcskiing and biathlon. The Covid-19 pandemics affected the event a lot - last year's races were held without international athletes and with no spectators. In 2021 both the internationals and the public will be back. The end of hard times? We talked to Arne as he was surveying the last preparations at the Sandnes Arena where most races will be held this year: "...Organizing the event of the size of Blink Festivalen was of challenging under circumstances, things were and are often unpredictable. Norway has the strictest Covid rules in Europe, it makes it hard to plan - you don't know what would be actually allowed by…

Writing long stories is oh-so-2001. Or even 1991. Instagram rules the world not for nothing. So instead of wasting your time with lengthy descriptions of who-did-what, we just show you how five leading female skiers of our blessed times looked today at the finish line of the 10k F [caption id="attachment_18007" align="alignnone" width="300"] Tatyana Sorina, 5th place [/caption][caption id="attachment_18005" align="alignnone" width="300"] Jessie Diggins (prone) , 4th place [/caption][caption id="attachment_18004" align="alignnone" width="300"] Ebba Andersson, 3d place [/caption][caption id="attachment_18008" align="alignnone" width="300"] Frida Karlsson, 2d place[/caption][caption id="attachment_18006" align="alignnone" width="300"] Therese Johaug - 1st place , minute ahead of the 2d place. Norwegian ski association won't send its teams for the races in the next few weeks. That means that the FIS World Cup races in Davos , Dresden and the entire Tour de Ski shall take place without the strongest team participating. Says team manager Espen Bjervig: "In addition to the risk of traveling, we have experienced that keeping a distance and avoiding close contact in the World Cup arena is more demanding than we first assumed. Endurance athletes have their lungs as a tool, and we do not know the after-effects of Covid-19. Therefore, we must take precautions" Interestingly, the British national team , that is more or less permanently based in Norway and is coached by the Norwegians Jostein Vinjerui and Hans Kristian Stadheim are on their way to…

“It’s a tough job. Hundreds of athletes and their parents from Norway and from all over Europe were calling me this year to ask whether they could come and take part in the competitions - and I had to tell No to all of them!” Arne Idland, the guy who invented, developed and runs Blink Skifestival sounds truly frustrated. One of the premier events of the international cross-country and biathlon seasons will take place this year as scheduled - but in a highly altered form. The Norwegian rules in place for COVID-19 epidemics are among the strictest in Europe currently and the Blink organizers had to think outside the box What’s going to be business as usual: All Norwegian stars of xcskiing and biathlon plus strongest Visma Ski Classics series…

Bolshunov Popped The Question! Where Are Other Stars in THAT Race?

Leaders, Newsfeed, Trivia
He popped the question! Alexander Bolshunov has beaten his chief rival yet again - and that distance shall be the longest ever. And the most pleasant too, hopefully! If might want to go back to our interview of 2018 where they talk about their feelings for each other. https://dailyskier.com/2018/10/25/bolshunov-and-zherebyateva-on-love-support-and-johannes-klaebo/ And what about Johannes? https://www.instagram.com/p/B6ixwBBpg6I/?igshid=vwu17y4n375d Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Pernille Dosvik made their relationship public in April 2018. Since then, they moved together into a newly built house ( Klaebo wins that race - Bolshunov & Zherebyateva are still working on kitting-out their family nest) and became "parents" to a cat called Stjerne or "Star". A fitting name and another one-up on the Russian rivals, who still pose on photos with their parents' dogs. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-4kE-MAz_-/?igshid=ybcoaxx0eken Wade Poplawski, Jessie Diggins’ Boyfriend is…
