Cool Train Running. Carrying Athletes On SkiTour 2020

Being cool is the most important thing there is. At least in the developed world. Travelling by train was always, frankly, the coolest way of transporting one's earthy body from point A to point B. But since we all are eco-minded now, it is also the trendiest. Enter Norwegian train and bus company Vy, that taken a big step of becoming the Main Sponsor for Ski Tour 202o. Part of that sponsorship is transporting all the athletes from one venue to the next. On the specially chartered and custom-painted train, no less! Today the first charter have taken some of the world's best skiers from Östersund to Åre. Athletes only. Coaches and support personnel had to go old-fashioned way - by bus & truck. Poor them. Athletes did look properly…

Fischer’s Dominance In Distance Racing Evident? Or Is It Being Challenged?

Gear News, Newsfeed
Is glass half full or half empty? Start lists of today's pursuit races at Ski Tour 2020. Of note: the left column, who-is-who in female distance racing, continues to be totally dominated by Fischer = 6 out of 10 with all top 5 places occupied by Fischer's athletes. The right column, however is markedly different: "only " 4 out of 10 with all podium places in yesterday's men 15k F race taken by rival skis.

SkiTour2020 Kicks Off Very Promisingly

The inaugural SkiTour 2020 kicked off in Östersund today. Here's what we saw and what we came to think: [caption id="attachment_14724" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Östersund has taken over Falun as Sweden's premier cross country ski place. Ski stadium, fully rebuilt for the recent Biathlon World Championships looks fancy and functions the way it's meant to be in 21 century[/caption] [caption id="attachment_14723" align="alignnone" width="1920"] There is a proper snow on the ground. Unlike in said Falun as well as in Oslo, Lahti etc. etc. Yeah, one could compete on man- made snow tracks - but snowy forests & frozen lakes look better.Perhaps, just a matter of habit[/caption] [caption id="attachment_14726" align="alignnone" width="1920"] There were spectators. Wouldn't lie: not as many as come to watch biathlon, but compared to xcski stages in the Alps…

Klaebo And Karlsson Generate Most Interest. How Come We Are Not Surprised?

Klaebo And Karlsson Generate Most Interest. How Come We Are Not Surprised?

Newsfeed
...once athletes entered the room, reporters did what reporters learn to do at the first month interning and then keep as essential skill throughout career: jump & run to the biggest newsmaker. "Newsmaker" is not necessarily the one who won or about to win. It's more about who would generate the biggest ratings/improve circulation or, more recently, produce clicksand likes. Nothing personal! It would surprise nobody that Johannes Klaebo and Frida Karlsson were by far the most popular today. It could be about that suspense: participation of either in Ski Tour was under question till last moment, - but it would not be the whole truth. The brands " Klaebo" and "Karlsson" are currently among the strongest in skiing and are comparable only to rising " Bolshunov " brand and that…

New Study: Skiers 30% Less Likely To Develop Parkinson’s Disease

Newsfeed, Travel & Mass Sport
Good news: long-distance skiers are significantly less likely to develop Parkinson's disease than matched non-skiers, says new complex study . Scientists in Sweden analyzed medical records of nearly 200,000 long-distance skiers who took part in the Vasaloppet cross-country ski race. They established that a physically active lifestyle is associated with close to a 30% reduced risk for PD, which might be explained by a motor reserve among the physically active. https://www.iospress.nl/ios_news/long-distance-skiers-may-have-motor-reserve-that-can-delay-onset-of-parkinsons-disease/
