Rollerski Racing: Same Rollers For Everyone Or Each To His/Her Own?

Leaders, Newsfeed
The eternal question for rollerski competitions of any size and importance : same gear for everyone or each to his/her own? The Dailyskier went to ask some of the world's top skiers as well as rollerski races organizers that very question: Some rollerski races follow the rules of winter skis i.e. each racer performs on individually chosen and prepared skis. Others ( e.g. Blink, Allianslopper, recent Fiemme Rollerski Cup) go the opposite way: every member of the elite performs on identical rollerskis provided by sponsor thus evening out the field somewhat What is a right way in your opinion? Which of the two options above you prefer when competing? We have received a lot of good, thoughtfull replies – and shall publish them in portions. Today's turn of race organizers: Ulf Stenman,…

Rollerski Manufacturers Reveal Truth About Ball Bearings

Rollerski Manufacturers Reveal Truth About Ball Bearings

Gear News, Newsfeed
Manufacturers today offer a vast choice of rollerskis to suit any taste and purse. Relative advantages of aluminum frames vs carbon laminated vs carbon monocoque are hotly debated. Ditto for rubber vs PU wheels. There is one thing, however, that all modern rollerskis have in common – ball-bearings. Marcos Ruperez, Quionne 1. We use reliable bearings with no matter that much about velocity. Why? because what is…

Fibra De Carbono Or How One Company Started By Designing Rollerskis , Then Expanded Elsewhere

...Which pair of rollerskis has the most striking looks? Not weight, balance, performance – those things are not immediately obvious – just looks? Here at the Daily Skier we vote for Quionne Carbon Fiber. Amazing piece of carbon fiber monocoque, looking somehow more like a powerful bow than rollerski. A total keeper, looks-wise! But is there a substance to go with that chiseled form? We got in touch with Marcos Rupérez, Quionne Tech S.L. co-founder/co-owner. And guess what? - contrary to expectations, our conversation went all about the substance – never the looks, never that Oomph! factor. Perhaps, because Marcos is not a marketologist or a salesman – he studied industrial engineering, has an MSc in renewable energies and an MBA. And he really, really does not mince his words.…
