NRK’s Nothingburger – Ustiugov Won’t Leave TdS For His Wife’s Labour

Newsfeed
NRK has made a good attempt to shock its audience: Sergey Ustiugov won't leave Tour de Ski in the event of his pregnant wife going into labour. Never mind the fact that Elena Soboleva's due date is at least a week past the final race of TdS. Never mind another little caveat that Sergey is now best positioned to win the series and thus take home some 55000 euros in prize money, not a bad paycheck for a crosscountry skier. Why is that surprising at all? In Russia men do not get themselves involved in baby delivery and their women actively do not want them to - ask anyone who ever lived in the country. Cramer is absolutely right - it is sacronsact duty & right of grandmothers-to-be (on both…

Alex Bolshunov Winter Victory Metal Is Forged In Summer

Leaders, Newsfeed
Winter victory metal is forged in summer. That or similar your coach probably used to tell you. And he was right. We couldn't stop telling you that at the top level money affect who wins: Norway, Russia and Sweden invest the most - and they win the most. Dedication and smart planning certainly helps. Case in point: while the rest went home to celebrate Christmas, the Russian team had an intense training camp in Toblach - and training on the same tracks where you about to compete always helps. But the core of the matter remains unchanged since the days of Gunde Svan ( and probably much beyond that): you have to train a lot. Time and again, through summer, autumn and winter we were lucky to observe how much…

Planica is a lovely place, but this weekend's World Cup stage was a fail. The weather played its part making skiing look like a form of OCR competition, but even in the best of conditions the very idea of having it where it was held and when it was held raises a lot of questions, among them: - What's the point of having it in the country/ region that is lukewarm to cross country skiing despite very impressive performance by its (mostly female side of) team? Ski jumping events in the area draw tens of thousands of spectators, ditto for alpine skiing - but cross country ones are, sadly, not and shall not in a foreseeable future. - What's the point of scheduling Planica stage two days ahead of Christmas?…

Miracles Do Happen: Linn Svahn’s Incredible World Cup Debut

Leaders, Newsfeed
Just think about it: a 20 year old Linn Svahn debuts at the World Cup. Naturally, she is outside the elite seeded group and thus starts her qualification 34d. With that starting position you are considered very good to make it to Top 30, extremely good if you make it to the Semis. To go on winning the stage is simply unheard of, never happened. Miracles do happen and today's one is called Linn Svahn.

Finn Haagen Krogh Acts As Sprint Team Coach Today In Davos. Women’s Sprint Team Coach!

Newsfeed
It might be a wild speculation at this point in time - but we saw what we saw: While the whole Norwegian Male team traditionally comes to high-altitude Davos at the last moment, an appearance of one its leaders on the stadium caused a minor sensation on Friday. It soon became apparent that Finn Haagen Krogh came to act throughout the whole training session today as a coach or, as some call it, a squire. [caption id="attachment_13958" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Body language is quite telling here: Finn Haagen explains something to (partial) Norwegian female sprint squad.[/caption] As our photos would tell you, it's not like Krogh is supervising some newbies - it's the reigning World champion and the bronze medalist we're talking here! [caption id="attachment_13957" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Note that Finn Haagen…
