Here at the Dailyskier we make no secret that we absolutely love anything & everything new in the world of cross country skiing. That is anything, that helps to spread the sport's appeal to larger masses of public and, well, of sponsors. That prompts us to put out a second story in a week about Petter Northug's inaugural Janteloppet that is due this Friday - Saturday. Yes, because we hope the race will provide the glimpse of the future for xcskiing. If Petter can't reform it - nobody can! https://www.instagram.com/p/BvLf9twh8Wz/ We chat with Nils Marius Otterstad, one Janteloppet organizers about what's new & different. - The Janteloppet Ski Fest is first and foremost based on Petter Northug jr.´s vision and passion for x-country skiing. In one phrase: it's all about…

Russian A-Team for 2019/20 Has 40 Athletes, More Than Any Competitor

Leaders, Newsfeed
The Russian Ski Federation has made public the national team's training groups for the season of 2019/2020. No fundamental changes - boss of the Russian skiing Elena Vyalbe & her coaches believe in internal competition within the Team Russia so for the upcoming season it will continue to be based around training groups led by Markus Cramer, Yuri Borodavko and Oleg Perevozchikov that are equal in status. Egor Sorin will carry on on leading the fourth group that is often seen as a sort of a farm-club but only because the average age of his skiers is lower than the rest. There is no official division on A and B teams. Each coach leads the team of specialists including at least one junior trainer, analyst, doctor, massage therapist, technicians etc.…

Competition Season is NOT Over For Johaug, Kalla, Iversen etc

How do you reckon the Norwegians turn their stars of skiing into " Stars. Period"? Easy - by having them on television screens as much as possible. And when there is no snow - well, there's always something else. Where there's a will, there's a way! Therese Johaug, Emil Iversen and - hold it - Petter Northug himself are currently on Rhodes competing against Charlotte Kalla and Calle Halfvarsson. Yep, on the Greek island of Rhodes. [caption id="attachment_10890" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Therese is first on a climb. No surprises there [/caption] Because that's where Norway's top broadcaster TV2 is currently filming an adventure show. Details are, predictably, kept under wraps but the show, named Landskampen, appears to be a cross between the Wipeout and the Fort Boyard. With a distinct difference…

Bolshunov In Rare Tell-All Interview About Klaebo, King And Training In Crimea

Leaders, Newsfeed
On the day of his last official race of the season and right before departing on the tour of Norway that will include him running in Kobberløpet and in Janteloppet , Alexander Bolshunov gave a television interview A 22 year old Russian sensation could be many things but he is not exactly a fan of long sit-down interviews - it took us at Dailyskier a bit of effort to convince him back in a day This time he made a rare exception for the Russian Siberian skiing-promoting project На Лыжи! ( roughly translated as Put Skis On!) and could be found & watched in full here Those not quite fluent in the language of Leo Tolstoy & Fyodor Dostoyevsky have an option of acquainting themselves with the highlights, in chronological…

Yes, you! Because you don't want to just let this winter slip away. And because you want to witness gathering of stars like nowhere else in the this part of the Universe. [caption id="attachment_10821" align="alignnone" width="1240"] Hafjell is a ski resort about 20 minutes drive from Lillehammer or around two hours from Oslo airport. World-class skiing in Norway is always close to " modern civilization" [/caption] World's fastest skiers Emanuele "Lele" Becchis and Ludvig "Ludde" Søgnen Jensen expect to throw gauntlet to Johannes Klaebo himself at 100m Supersprint. Becchis is the current world record holder at 10.78 ( clock your own 100m on skis, freestyle - see how good you are.) In 30k freestyle race Alexander Bolshunov will meet Sjur Røthe and Hans Christer Holund - how's that for a…
