Nordic skiing is among the fastest growing in popularity outdoor activities in the United States, along with stand-up paddling and BMX biking. These findings are part of the massive Outdoor Recreation Participation Topline Report, just released by the Outdoor Foundation, a US nonprofit. Nordic skiing has shown a very impressive steady annual growth averaging 13 % during the last 3 years. In 2016, some 4,640,000 Americans hit the cross country ski trail compared to only 3,400,000 in 2013 – a rather whopping hike of 40.3%! Amer Sports , the owner of Salomon and Atomic, have released its Q1 2017 financial report. The Winter Sports Equipment department, as Amer Sports calls its ski/poles/boots producing brands, has reported a massive year-on-year growth – the sales went up stunning 18 percent to €52.1 million – even if other company departments' sales were flat or depressed. With less than 10 months to go the Olympic Games in PyeongChang, The Korea Ski Association have decided to part ways with the team's Russian coach Mikhail Devyatyarov and his aides  Lee Jun-gil and Pak Byung-joo, Yonhap news agеncy reports. Devyatyarov is the Olympic champion of Calgary'1988 where he won 15k classic race. He previously coached the Russian sprint team before accepting last July the KSA's offer to train the Korean skiers for the Olympics. The decision not to renew coaches' contracts stems from the recent scandal in the Korean cross country skiing team at the the Asian Winter Games.
